So I saw The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo earlier today. I just finished reading some reviews to see what the professionals thought of it. It seems like we’re all on the same page for the most part, it was pretty damn good. I haven’t seen the Swedish version but important opinions (friends, Ebert) are saying there’s no clear winner so I’m not in a rush.
The critics who didn’t like it make some decent points, mostly that a lot of the themes aren’t fleshed out. I’ll explain more in a “read more” to avoid spoilers.
“Since they couldn’t get the reclusive Terrence Malick himself in front of a camera, they got two other notoriously hard-to-find legendary directors instead: David Fincher and Christopher Nolan. Yes, this is awesome! The two of them talk about how Malick has inspired them and their love for the way he shot Tree of Life, which is indeed a gorgeous film.”
I was supposed to see this on Friday but it looks like I’ll have to wait a week. This is no good.
